Historic Downtown Churches Host Christmas Services

(December 21, 2009)  As the hustle and bustle of holiday preparation slows, four Historic Downtown Paris churches will host special Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and weekend services. Christmas Eve begins as it should, with children. Services for little ones are followed by candlelight, communion, carols and scripture throughout the evening. Below are the service times, descriptions and contact information.

Christmas Eve
4:00 p.m.

Grace Episcopal Church’s Children's Service includes a festive pageant of carols and costumes for the little ones. The church is located at 103 S. Poplar. Phone 731-642-1721 or email www.gracechurchparistn.org for information.

First Presbyterian Church’s Children’s Christmas Eve Worship Service is geared to preschoolers and younger elementary age children. Come sing familiar carols, make a Christmas craft, hear the Christmas story and share in a birthday party for Jesus. The dress is casual and the service will last about 30-45 minutes. The church is located at the Corner of Market and East Blythe Streets next to the Post Office. Phone 731-642-2962 for information.

5:30 p.m.
The First United Methodist Church congregation invites everyone to an inspirational service of communion, candlelight, carols and the Christmas story. Come as you are; all are welcome at this serene communion service. The church is located at101 E. Blythe. Phone is 731-642-4764 for information.

7:00 p.m.
Join the First Presbyterian Church for a stirring candlelight worship service with carols, the adult choir and the beautiful pipe organ. Communion will be served; all are welcome at the table. The church is located at the Corner of Market and East Blythe Streets next to the Post Office. Phone is 731-642-2962 for information.

8:00 p.m.
First Christian Church invites the community to their uplifting, heartfelt Communion and Candlelight Service. Children will perform, along with the choir and soloists. The church is located at 101 South Poplar, 731-642-3181

11:00 p.m.
Grace Episcopal Church invites everyone to Midnight Mass for a traditional candlelight service, a peaceful celebration of this most holy night. The church is located at 103 S. Poplar. Phone 731-642-1721 or email www.gracechurchparistn.org for information.

Christmas Day
11:00 a.m.
Come to Grace Episcopal Church for a “Jeans and Jammies Service” on Christmas morning. Come as you are for this simple, short and lovely celebration of this sacred day.

Sunday after Christmas
All churches will have regular Sunday services.

6:00 p.m.
"Christmas Unplugged" is at the beautiful Grace Episcopal where the acoustic sounds and great vocal harmonies of the "Seldom Seine" will fill the church. Elaine Conger, Wayne Wilson and Tabitha Myrick’s country-bluegrass-folk renditions of classic carols and newer songs about the Christ Child will entertain yet underscore the true reason for the season.
