Cool Treats on Downtown Streets for Tasty Fundraiser

(July 9, 2010)  Tickets are available for the first ever, all-you-can-eat, Downtown Paris Ice Cream Social, slated for Saturday, July 31. A minimum donation of $10 is requested for adult tickets and a $5 donation for children under 12. The 2010 beneficiary is R.E.A.L. Hope Youth Center.

Sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association, the event has attracted 22 organizations and businesses as booth sponsors and the list is growing. “Several of those participants are partnering with other groups,” said Kathy Ray, chairperson for the Ice Cream Social. “Partnering is a great way to keep cut the work and cost in half while still taking part in this delicious fundraiser.

It’s not too late to sponsor a booth, according to Ray. The deadline for entering has been extended and other groups are encouraged to join the fun and help raise money for R.E.A.L. Hope Youth Center. “We were hoping for 15 booths,” said Ray. “We’re well over that now; this event is really taking off.”

Homemade ice cream is encouraged, but not essential. “What matters is that ticket holders get their fill of lots of different cold, creamy desserts at this all-you-can-eat event and that we raise lots of money for this year’s beneficiary.” Awards will be given for Best Theme, Best Ice Cream and Best of Show. “We’ve got some folks doing some hilarious booths,” said Ray.

Tickets are available from booth sponsors. The current list includes: Continental Loans; Dr. Dunkerson; E.W. James/Pepsi/Prairie Farms; Elect Tim Wirgau; First Bank; First Presbyterian/Grace Episcopal; First United Methodist Church; H & R Block, Kroger; Lakeway IGA; Leach’s Music/Conger Music Studio; LFG Specialty Products, LLC; Lee Academy for the Arts/Arts Council; Lowe’s; MyParisMagazine.com; Paris on the Square/Jack Jones Flowers/Dr. Buddy Gardner; Quota; Re-Elect Butch Borchert; REAL Hope Youth Center; Sally Lane’s Candy Farm; Trinity Methodist Men and TVCC.

Tickets for the event are actually paper bracelets. “Folks wearing R.E.A.L. Hope bracelets can eat all of the ice cream they can hold from 3:00 until 6 p.m.,” said Ray. “We’ll have cups at each booth and our guests can sample a half cut at each one of them.”
