Candlelight Advent Walk Heralds the Season

The Candlelight Advent Walk ushers in the Christmas season Wednesday evening, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. Worshippers will hear the message of Advent in the beautifully decorated churches then proceed by candlelight through the historic downtown area.

“This is a unique and wonderful way to usher in the Advent Season,” said First Presbyterian Church Minister, Reverend Jenna Goggins who chairs the 2012 Advent Walk Committee. “It’s a great opportunity to worship with other churches, enjoy their meaningful decorations of the season and stroll through our charming Victorian downtown while visiting with our friends and neighbors.”

The service begins at Quinn Chapel AME on Church Street. Then take a short walk to First Baptist Church at 313 North Poplar. Worshippers will then head to Grace Episcopal (South Poplar Street) through sparkling downtown Paris then next door to First Christian Church (South Poplar Street) and then just across the street to First United Methodist Church (Blythe Street). A reception will be held at the final stop, First Presbyterian Church (South Market Street). Vans will be available for those who do not wish to walk, according to Goggins.

Participating churches and the Downtown Paris Association sponsor this annual event. For more information on Christmas events downtown, log on www.VisitDowntownParis.com
